Pediatric Associates is proud to announce the recent launch of its new telehealth platform, KidzDocNow, which allows its patients to receive care via secure video conferencing from any mobile device, tablet, smart phone or home computer. While several health systems have adopted telehealth, Pediatric Associates is the first private practice in South Florida to launch this innovative service to provide greater access to care for its patients.
A team of board-certified Pediatric Associates physicians, dedicated solely to telehealth services, can now assess a child’s condition, provide treatment options and prescribe medication if necessary via a video appointment on Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. It is expected that this service will expand to 24/7/365 coverage in the near future. Common conditions that can be diagnosed via video include rash, pink eye, thrush, lice, constipation, insect bites and issues with breastfeeding or newborn feeding.
“Pediatric Associates prides itself on being accessible and convenient for our patients. We are open 365 days a year with weekend, evening and holiday hours in order to accommodate working parents and guardians. Our parents may not have the time to bring their child to the doctor for every rash, bump or scrape. Our expansion into telehealth is another avenue for our patients and their families to receive the highest quality of pediatric healthcare from our trusted physicians,” said Pediatric Associates CEO Peter Shulman, M.D., FAAP, MBA.
The triage and scheduling staff at each of Pediatric Associates’ 35 locations in Florida will determine whether a video appointment is in the best interest of the child. If a video appointment is appropriate, the patient will be given an option to schedule a same day appointment time just as they would schedule an office visit. The appointment will be conducted via the KidzDocNow app (available on iTunes and Google Play) or by logging onto www.KidzDocNow.com.
In addition to the convenience for patients and their families, the launch of KidzDocNow is also expected to improve Pediatric Associates’ office based services by freeing up appointments for more complex patient care. The fee for a video telehealth visit is $49. It is a covered benefit for children on Medicaid and often covered by commercial insurance.
The video service is an expansion of the organization’s existing telephonic-based telehealth care management program which has been in effect for about a year.
